About Me
life and friends: i'm just a kid. that's about it. i need a means of expression, and i chose a website. i don't take life seriously and since this site is about my life, try not to look into it too deeply. i don't have many friends, but the friends that i do have i hold in very high esteem and i would do almost anything for any one of them. i doubt that they all view me in the same way, but if i'm gong to delude myself i might as well do it properly: i have great friends.
role models: i tend to idolize people who are more creative than i am, hoping that some of their creativity will rub off on me. so far my plan has been disturbingly unsuccessful. i'm pretty much a loser so there aren't many people out there that i wouldn't look up to. just to name a few: my cousins Rodney and George, Jason Ng, Jim Soltmann, and (cliché!) my dad. look for the complete, unabridged list in my up-and-coming memoirs, entitled The life of a Loser: could it be any more pathetic.
music: music has played an important role in shaping me into the person that i am today. it's challenged me aesthetically, while still providing a visceral escape. nowadays i tend to listen to underground punk and hardcore, but a lot of times i'll find myself craving a slow, sad emo tune to put my mind at ease. i really enjoy singer/songwriter stuff (bob dylan, bright eyes) because it strikes me as pure, raw emotion put into words. i avoid mainstream music because i don't want to be identified as an "average American" because, unfortunately, music has become a means of labeling people as thing they are often not.
books: i read a lot. and that's an understatement. i grew up with books and i'm still growing up with books. they're just as important, if not more so, as music when it come to my "development" as a person. i'm a sucker for a good fantasy novel and oftentimes i'll find myself indulging in a good nonfiction book. my favorite authors include: Frank Herbert, JRR Tolkein, Robert Aspirin, Ursula LeGuin, Dave Barry, Raymond Feist, David Eddings, Robert Salvatore, Chris Markham, Bill Bryson, and Carl Safina, just to name a few.
sports: i'm not really into the whole organized sports thing. i watch Monday Night Football like every other guy and i follow the NCAA championship games, but i know shit about sports trivia, especially when it comes to baseball. if someone gets a basketball game going, i'm there. i have a decent jump shot, but beyond that i'm pretty trashy. i see sports only as a form of entertainment and a source of some friendly competition. anything beyond that is probably a waste of my (precious) time.
love and girls: HA! when it comes to girls i have the least amount of knowledge you could possibly have without being completely ignorant. i've had no long-term relationships and i haven't gone any further than the typical makeout session. but hey, at this point i'll take what little ass i can get. it's not like there any pressure from the media and my peers. maybe i'm confusing love and sex a little bit. right now, i wouldn't mind a just a close relationship with a girl i could talk to and confide in. some day. some day.....
coming soon: my view on drugs.
